Week 11
We have finished our novels and now plan to watch the movies, in order to compare and contrast the movie with the novels!!
So far, students have watched "Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe". Yes, they loved it!!! The movie is just as good as the book, I think!
We are hoping to also watch "Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief" and "The Tale of Despereaux" this week as well, if we have the time, that is..

Reading in Term 2- The Novels
The BFG
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As part of English this term, we are reading a novel titled, The BFG by Roald Dahl, which is a story of how a little girl, Sophie, and her giant friend save the world from a group of flesh-eating giants. Major themes that are depicted in this novel include courage, friendship and loyalty.
Students are given a list of words to add to their "Wild Words" booklet in order to improve their vocabulary as well as comprehension questions to ensure student understanding of the concepts, plot and characters.
Students are writing a number of different pieces, including poems, letters and even short imaginative pieces, all of which are based around the novel. Students will also complete a written review as a final piece of assessment.
Students have also been studying elements of persuasion, particularly in persuasive essays. Students have already expressed their personal opinion on the topic, "TV is a bad influence", providing at least three powerful arguments to support their opinion.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me on [email protected]
Warm Regards,
Ms. Sime
